ON THE RISE

Building Confidence & Leadership through

Sport & Adventure

for

Girls 10 - 14yrs
Introduction
Recent research shows that girls are the ones who suffer disproportionately from the consequences of a lack of physical activity. But girls also offer the greatest chance of breaking the physical inactivity cycle, along with benefiting the most from returning to physical activity, gaining confidence and leadership skills along the way.

About OTR
On The Rise (OTR) is designed to build confidence and leadership skills in girls 10 -14 years of age through sport and adventure. This initiative will help girls who otherwise may not get the opportunity to do so, be able to participate in a variety of physical activities that will help them set and achieve realistic goals, accept responsibility, learn how to fail gracefully, break through barriers, find healthy ways to cope with stress, and learn to respect themselves and others.
Our team has built a sustainable program through which young girls can mature and become mentors for those who will participate in the program in the future. It's been proven that physical activity can enhance self-image, build confidence, and lower rates of depression, and it's our goal to build a community where sport and adventure-seeking girls can connect and participate in the many indoor and outdoor activities our community has to offer.

OUR TEAM

As the founders, we believe in rallying at the community level to identify resources and shared goals to ensure that girls have the opportunity to engage in all forms of physical play, physical activity, and a variety of sports. This partnership will help us build a stronger and more sustainable program now and into the future.
By pooling resources from various sectors, local businesses, voluntary groups, and other sport organizations, we hope to overcome any barriers to participation for girls who are interested.

Quotes and feedback from our spring OTR Program
  • My daughter felt more secure in her leadership abilities
  • "She loved the program. Enjoyed being challenged"
  • She never once said she ‘didn’t feel like going’ as can sometimes happen with other activities.
  • The program exceed expectations
  • Tying it all together to get them ready for the race showed them how they could achieve such a big thing.
  • This is a great program with instructors that really cared and connected with my daughter. It made a difference in her desire to show up for each class and put her best effort forward. They covered all the aspects needed toward achieving such a big goal of completing the race and having a good time while doing it.
  • OTR was an amazing experience for my daughter. She loved learning new skills including biking, orienteering, first aid and canoeing. The OTR leaders did a wonderful job preparing her for her first Adventure Race.
Thanks to our sponsors for making our first OTR program a huge success
